Derby Arena to open on 20 March
Thu 26 Feb 2015
We're thrilled to announce our opening on Friday 20 March, followed by a 30 days series of events to ‘unwrap’ the Arena.
The official opening will be marked with a special launch evening on Thursday 19 March, which will welcome hundreds of local people, as well as sporting and cultural celebrities who'll be able to explore the iconic new venue for the first time.
Audience members will have the chance to experience the Arena in its many guises and manifestations. Activities will take place throughout the Arena in a multitude of locations, which guests will have the opportunity to explore. Our guests will then be encouraged to take their seats for a spectacular sporting, cycling and cultural showcase.
Councillor Alison Martin, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said:
“I’m truly excited to announce the opening date for the iconic, world-class, venue that is Derby Arena. The initial ‘unwrapping’ event promises to be something quite special. We’re offering a brilliant opportunity to see the Arena in all its glory, try first-hand what it has to offer and most importantly, give the Arena’s visitors and Derby people the opportunity to help us shape the running and operating of this fabulous venue.”
The launch event is part of a wider 30 day programme of activities and events, as we unwrap the Arena - see more details on our Unwrapping the Arena programme page. There'll be sporting awards, tours, track cycling and badminton sessions and “have a go” sessions. From Friday 20 March, anyone can drop into the Arena* to visit the café and find out more about what is on offer. The gym will be open to members from this date. Not a member yet? You still have time to sign up.
A highlight of the exciting programme of events will be the open weekend, taking place on 28-29 March. This will be a great opportunity for each and everyone to come along, have a tour, watch demonstrations and give certain activities a go. The weekend will be ‘a programme of two halves’ with the Saturday featuring a sporting exhibition programme and the Sunday featuring a cycling exhibition programme.
Our bookings will be available face to face and over the phone from Friday 20 March. We look forward to seeing you all at the Arena!
* Entry fee of £1 applies to non-members and those not taking part in an activity, which can be redeemed against drinks purchased from Café 42. During our Open Weekend the fee does not apply.
