The Mayor of Derby, Councillor Robin Wood and Councillor Matthew Eyre visited Derby Arena on Tuesday 1 November, to meet Veteran track riders and to congratulate World and National Masters Track Championship medal winners.

The event was held on the Cycle D in Derby Arena and was an evening of celebration and recognition of the amazing achievements of these track cyclists. The Mayor of Derby gave a speech, congratulating all the medallists who had taken part in the World and National Masters Track Championships this year, and thanked them for representing Derby at these events with spirit and camaraderie.

Charlotte Parnham and Geoff Cook, who are current National and World Champions were presented with a Role of Honour, which they accepted on behalf of all the medallists and other competitors. This plaque will be proudly displayed in Derby Arena, showcasing the tremendous achievements of the Veteran riders.

Derek Gascoyne aged 90, was also acknowledged for a lifetime achievement, receiving a Derby Arena jersey in recognition of the work he has completed to set up the Super Vets track cycling and keeping it running, still attending each week.

The evening was completed with light refreshments and the opportunity to watch Derby Arena Track League racing.
