Success of walk all over cancer this March
Last month we asked you to take part in 'walk all over cancer this March' and you have absolutely smashed it by committing to 10,000 steps a day and all together raised £1,437.72 + £285.25 Gift Aid. We would like to say a huge thank you and well done to everyone that has taken part and helped out in any way possible for life-saving research.

Let's join the Country this March, and take up the challenge to 'walk over cancer'.
Over March we are asking our Derby Active members, staff, friends and families to help us support Cancer Research by walking 10,000 steps each day, whilst raising money.
To take part:
1. Commit to 10,000 steps a day
2. Sign up for free to the Derby Active just giving page
3. Get going with your steps
4. Raise money for life-saving research.
So let's join Cancer Research in the ultimate challenge for a healthy lifestyle
Let's help people like Val, who is one of our Derby Active Members.
"When the lockdown was announced, I was devastated. Two years before I had been diagnosed with breast cancer and after working really hard with my City of Derby Swimming Club and all the instructors at Derby Arena, I was finally back to full fitness after all the treatment and operations.
My physical and mental health is definitely intrinsically linked, so entering lockdown was going to be a challenge having lost access to both pools and gyms. Having been in a pretty dark place with the cancer diagnosis, there was no way I was going to let my physical and mental health slide backwards. So, I swapped swimming for running and started using the C25k NHS app, which was a brilliant choice for maintaining cardiovascular fitness. Eventually, after much sweating, swearing and complaining, I was able to run a 10k. As a nice bonus, I lost a stone in weight, not sure how as I seemed to be eating all the time!
Then Derby Active started online classes using the instructors that we all know and love. Making time for these classes was really important and it was good to be able to communicate with the instructors and classmates over Facebook live. Communication with others m even in this limited way, is extremely important to keep everybody sane".
