Olympic champs come out on top at Derby Arena

Tue 16 Oct 2018

For the first time Derby Arena hosted both the National Madison and Omnium championships in a single weekend.

Multiple Olympic Gold medalists competed for both titles. Katie Archibald MBE and Elinor Barker MBE edged out Britains most successful female Olympian Laura Kenny CBE and rising star Ellie Dickinson to claim the women's Madison title. In the race to the Men's title it was Matt Walls and Fred Wright who took the national stripes.

Following Saturday's success Matt Walls triumphed again on Sunday taking the Men's omnium. The Women's omnium podium was an illustration of the depth of British talent, with all medallists also being Olympic track champions. It was Laura Kenny CBE who came out on top with Katie Archibald MBE and Laura Barker MBE taking second and third respectively.

It was a great event on both days. Racing was hot throughout and the Boys and Girls Youth A both had some fantastic racing with Jack Rootkin-Gray and Zoe Backstedt both winning their respective groups.
