Laura Kenny to race at Derby Arena

Briton’s most successful female Olympian, Laura Kenny CBE is set to compete at Derby Arena today for a national track title. It will be the first time the four times Olympic gold medallist will race since giving birth to her first child six months ago.

Laura Kenny CBE became Great Britain’s most successful Olympic female competitor in any sport in 2016 when she won gold in both the team pursuit and the omnium. Over the length of her career Laura has won seven World Championships, a record ten European Championships and one Commonwealth Games title.

Laura will be competing for the National Omnium title against a number of top riders from across the country. Several top level trade teams have entered riders including Matrix Pro Cycling, British Cycling’s 100% ME and Breeze teams, along with local world cup winning team KGF.

This fast-paced track cycling competition, held under British Cycling and UCI rules, will consist of four events with separate competitions for male and female riders. The winner of the Omnium will be the rider with the highest total of points, following the thrilling 10km Scratch, 10 km Tempo, Elimination and 25 km Points races.

Derby Arena is hosting the HSBC UK National Men’s & Women’s Omnium Championships today with doors opening from 10.30am.
