The Great Britain Cycling Team has completed a two day training programme at Derby Arena in preparation for next week’s European Championships. Top athletes attending the session included Sir Bradley Wiggins and Dame Laura Trott as part of the Great Britain endurance team.

The two day session that took place on Wednesday 7 October and Thursday 8 October was part of the final preparation plans ahead of the European Championships which will run from 14-18 October in Grenchen, Switzerland.

It was the second time the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell visited Derby Arena after they previously took part in Round 1 of the Revolution series last August, where they fought for crucial qualification points for the Rio Olympics next year. After the Revolution event Sir Bradley Wiggins described Derby Arena as “brilliant” and “World-class”.

Councillor Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and City Centre Regeneration, said:

“It’s inspiring to have the Great Britain Cycling Team training in Derby for the European Championships and as part of their road to Rio. That they chose to train here ahead of such an important competition is a testament to the world-class nature of Derby Arena.”
