Derby Arena team member to take part in Derby 2 Skegness
Wed 27 Apr 2016
With the Derby 2 Skegness charity cycle ride fast approaching our staff member Steve Jones has signed-up to take part and help raise awareness for Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre.
The 100 mile ride to Skegness is taking place on Sat 14 May with the riders arriving at Derby Arena at 7am to start the challenge.
Steve has just returned from cycling Scotland’s North Coast 500 touring route and has a history of cycle touring under his belt, including a 1000 mile ride across South America from Buenos Aires to Santiago. Over the last 2 years Steve has been completing challenges to raise awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young through a charity fund that he co-founded called CRYathlon which has risen over £12,000 to date.
Speaking with Steve earlier, he said “I’m looking forward to the day of Derby 2 Skegness; taking on 100 miles is always going to be a challenge, although having recently cycled the North Coast 500 I feel ready to take it on, despite a few lingering aches and pains.
“Raising awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young is something that I am passionate about and will continue to do in the coming years with future challenges and events, yet it is great to be able to get behind a local cause and support disadvantaged children in Derby.”
Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre provides week long holidays to Skegness for children experiencing difficulty at home. Each year 450 children are given a holiday they would otherwise not have, providing a week of fun, learning and relaxation but a lifetime of memories.
Steve will be posting on social media on the day, so make sure you check in on our Twitter account for updates on how the ride is going.
There is still time to join the team, whether you want to take part in the ride, come along to support the riders or attend the launch from Arena. To find out more visit the Derby 2 Skegness website here or visit the Just Giving page to donate to the cause.
