Derby Arena crowned Construction Project of the Year

Derby Arena has been awarded Construction Project of the Year at the annual East Midlands Property Dinner. The award was in recognition of its unique nature and technical challenges.
The judges commented that it was "a wonderful piece of work on a wonderful development". The arena also stood out as a superb one-off project that mastered difficult technical issues to bring forward a stunning massive draw of building, which delivered the project early, and on budget.
Councillor Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and City Centre Regeneration, who collected the award said:
“Derby Arena is a unique and inspiring building, which has already held national and international sporting events. It’s a testament to what a great city like Derby can achieve”.
Derby Arena which was delivered in partnership with main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland and architects FaulknerBrowns opened in March this year. So far it has already welcomed tens of thousands of customers through the door and thousands have been on the velodrome track.
The Arena is delivering a diverse sports participation programme encouraging people to get involved in sport. In addition to hosting sporting events, it will also be the new venue for Derby’s annual pantomime, Aladdin with its star filled cast performing at Derby Arena in the winter months.
