Adam Peaty awarded Freedom of the City

On Sunday 9 October, ICON Athlete Adam Peaty was awarded with the Freedom of the City at the reception outside the ceremonial entrance of the Council House.

The presentation began with acknowledgements to the City of Derby Swimming Club, including presentations to coach Mel Marshall and Paralympian Lewis White, who received a bronze medal in S9 400m freestyle at the Rio Paralympics. The event culminated with the granting of the Freedom of the City for Adam Peaty. As part of the presentations, Royal Crown Derby presented gifts to Adam Peaty, Lewis White, Mel Marshall and representatives from the City of Derby Swimming Club for their contribution to coaching swimmers in the City.

Adam Peaty received the Gold Medal for 100m breaststroke at this years Summer Olympic Games in Rio after breaking the world record in his first heat and storming through the semi-final and to the top of the podium in the final.
