90's Legends Rock Derby Arena!

Tue 18 Oct 2016

Music legends Happy Mondays, The Bluetones and Cast thrilled at Derby Arena as they played to the masses on Saturday evening. Gig goers were treated to a festival experience with local bands The Herron Brothers, Frank and Starwheel performing in the bar area before the gig and between the main acts.

The event, staged by Derby LIVE and SB5 was a resounding success. Cast kicked the evening off with a brilliant rendition of Baby Blue Eyes. They went on to play an enjoyable, set entertaining the crowd. There were loud cheers when The Bluetones assembled in front of the audience. As the night went on the crowd were increasingly enthralled, while the band played through their classic hits.

When Happy Mondays took to the stage one by one the atmosphere was cranked all the way up to 11. First the crowd cheered and then they started dancing as if it was 90s all over again. The legends of British music thrilled the masses with their unique music and their entertaining quips.

SB5 is the testimonial year for former DCFC player and captain Shaun Barker who suffered a horrific injury against local rivals Nottingham Forest in 2012. He never managed to play another first team game for The Rams, but was awarded the testimonial for his contribution both on and off the pitch. He recently played his first competitive game in over four years for Championship side Burton Albion.

The SB5 testimonial committee is holding five events over 12 months, including a Q&A, a Testimonial game at the iPro Stadium and a children's five-a-side football tournament. The latest chapter of his testimonial year at Derby Arena was an unforgettable success.

Derby LIVE and Derby Arena are now looking forward to hosting the sell-out gig Catfish and The Bottlemen on Saturday 5 November.
