About the event

The National Madison and Omnium Championships return to Derby Arena with a great weekend of racing

Due to the impact of Covid-19 the event hasn’t been held since October 2019.

Then, the newly-crowned world omnium champion Ethan Hayter and elite world championships debutant Ella Barnwell won the omnium titles. The National Madison Championships men’s event was won by Fred Wright and world championships scratch race bronze medallist Rhys Britton, while Anna Docherty and Paralympic silver and bronze medallist Jenny Holl won the women’s event.

Since then the Great Britain Cycling Team has enjoyed a number of famous victories in the events. Matt Walls in the Omnium at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, and Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald in the Madison followed by Ethan Hayter and Katie Archibald’s omnium world championships victories at the 2021 world championships in Roubaix.

With thrilling racing and a strong rider field guaranteed, spectators will once again have the opportunity to watch the action live at the Derby Arena.

Archibald, who claimed the national omnium title in 2017, said: “The national championships is always a brilliant weekend of racing and it’s great to see the event return to Derby again in April. The names on the podium over the past few years show you just how strong the fields are, and I’m sure that’ll be no different in 2022.”

Event organiser, Phil Kilpatrick, added: “The last few years have been challenging for everyone so the opportunity to host the National Madison and Omnium Championships again is a pleasure. The racing and riders for the last few years have been world-class and I’m sure that the 2022 Championships will be no different. It’s going to be great to get the crowds in and create the atmosphere we are known to generate.”
