About the Event

Largest UK cycling club holds its annual national track championships at Derby Arena

Founded in 1894 as a method for spreading ‘The Clarion’ newspaper message to the working classes of Great Britain, the National Clarion Cycling Club is one of the oldest and most unique cycling clubs in the world.

With an unbroken history of cycling and a track racing heritage that goes back to the 1922 Workers Olympiad in Prague, the Clarion has always loved racing on the track, as much as social cycling epitomised in its slogan – ‘fellowship is life’.

With over 1600 members and 30 sections of the Clarion around the country, this year the Clarion is hosting its annual track championships at Derby Arena over two days – Saturday 12 September between 12noon and 5pm and Sunday 13 September between 9am and 1pm. The Senior, Junior, Ladies and Vets Championships will be taking place on the Saturday and Youth Championships will be held on the Sunday, both for Clarion members only.

Local cyclists from Heanor, Nottingham and Tuxford will compete for many different championship titles, from its Senior Omnium – Dove Trophy, through to the Historic Czech Trophy (from the Workers Olympiad in 1922) for the Team Pursuit and finally the Blue Ribband Track event, held over 32 laps on Derby’s cycle track.

Come and spectate the event for £1 per person.
