Derby Arena to Host First Track Open Competition

Fri 10 Jun 2016

In July, we invite you to come and witness the thrill of the track and join the party atmosphere as we host our first open track cycling competition, taking place on Saturday 9 July.

National-standard track cyclists will compete in a range of events including a scratch, points, elimination and a 10 mile Grand Prix final. For all the eager sprint fans out there, you can witness an exciting Keirin event and to finish, you can enjoy the spectacle of a Madison as pairs hand sling each other into the fast paced racing. It will be the ideal event for those who haven’t seen a track event before and wish to witness the action packed racing in Derby Arena.

If you need to sharpen up some of your cycling knowledge and learn about the various different disciplines, we recommend reading and following the links available on this website.

Councillor Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and City Centre Regeneration, said: “I’m very pleased that Derby Arena is hosting its first open track competition. Opens are the foundation of many competitive sports and it will be exciting to see riders from across the country pit themselves against each other.”

More information about competing in our first open track competition can be found on the British Cycling Website. Races include Grand Prix Endurance, Sprint Keirin and Madison events. The event will have music and our commentator will ensure you don’t miss a thing.
